Spelling tasks
By Jodie Hasett

Clip to ScrapBook
Some of the things we do are simple and you probably already do them. Here is a partial list:

1. ABC order
2. Reverse ABC order
3. A sentence that MAKES SENSE
4. Definition
5. Vowels in one colour, consonants
in another
6. Prefix/suffix in one colour, root word in another
7. Every letter in a different colour
8. Make up a crossword
9. Spell some words using macaroni glued to paper
10. Cut out letters from the newspaper and magazines to spell list words (RANSOM words, the kids love it!)
11. Make two or more words from the letters in the list words
12. connections: for example,
using the EACH from list word TEACH, find 5 other words that have that pattern or that connection
13. Word Pyramids: for example
c
ca
cat
catc
catch
14. Synonym/homonym/antonym

I hope this gives some ideas to some people. I am doing differentiated spelling this year, and I find that this really helps give my kids choices and appeals to multiple intelligences.
