For many years I'd run ED/MR SC classrooms. I can't imagine what it'd have been like if I could not have instantly and consistently restrained physically aggressive/destructive behaviors. I have no suggestions to offer you / only sympathy. I'm concerned, also, for the safety of students who become the targets/objects of attacks that cannot be consistently/instantly put in check. When I started, most of these behaviors were kept in check through medications (too much one extreme). Now it appears that we're reaching the opposite extreme. I suggest that you join the strongest teacher organization there is to protect yourself. This is a legal constraint upon your effectiveness that can have fallout for everyone, especially for you.
