Student teaching while pregnant
By Ally

Clip to ScrapBook
I think you should do it as well...I had two practicums to do...I did the first one pregnant then had the baby and went back to do a semester of academics and then my final student teaching with the baby at home. It was
so much easier to do the first practicum, not having to worry about daycare and being able to work long hours and not feel guilty. I actually spread out my one semester of academics over two semesters as I was nursing and could not be away from the baby for long stretches so it took me longer to finish everything up.

I had a timeline, set out by the university, in which to finish the

program and I am glad for this as I may have decided to just chuck it and come back to teaching later in life...but my daughter is now 5 and I have a son who is 2 and trust me, I only have less time for things, not more! I have been able to work part time, between the first and second children and after my mat leave, so I can "keep my toes" in teaching while my kids are young so when I want to devote myself to teaching full time, I will be ready. Although the longer I teach part time, and watch how much work colleagues who work full time put in, I am wondering if I will ever want a full time position!

Best to jump in now and get your student teaching behind you, so you can enjoy your new baby without anything hanging over your head..congratulations! Ally
