quick and effective fix
By Walter F. Gloshinski

Clip to ScrapBook
Sweet and simple: give rewards-tangible and immediate-for those who bring everything they need. Some ideas: free time; food; games; first to leave at the bell, etc. Announce this the first day back, and tell them tomorrow we start. Just make sure it is as immediate and concrete as possible. I would start with a food reward as soon as they came in with all they need. You can then stretch it out for less immediate rewards once they start bringing everything, and eliminate it when it becomes a habit. Be black and white on this. No rewards unless all criteria is met. For those that don't earn it, remind them they can try again tomorrow. I have lots of experience and ideas in this area.
