For beginning readers any type of phonics program is always good to help them review the letter sounds. Jumpstart 1st grade, Phonics 1st grade are just some examples.

I also like the Living Books series - These are "stories"
that are on a disc and are interactive. The students read along with the program and then can click anywhere to make things move on the screen. You can get a lot of different titles, Dr. Suess Books, Little Critter, Franklin and Stellaluna are just some I've used.

For students who are at least mid-way through the grade 1 program may also benefit from the accelerated reading program.

This program is based on books found usually in your school's library. So for it to really be beneficial your students would have to be able to read at least some of the books independently.
