My husband also made chart stands for my classroom. There are directions we used at http://208.183.128.8/read/words.htm. I also spray painted mine. Before you paint be sure to clean the writing off the pipes. You can buy the cleaner next to the pipe. Hope this helps. I enjoy using mine.
