Acts of Kindness
By Mary

Clip to ScrapBook
At the end of each day I spend about five minutes having the kids tell each other thank you for being kind to each other. I ask the kids to think about their day. Who was kind to them? What did that person do? Then I call
on kids. Each child says, "Thank you (child's name) for (what that person did)". The person who was kind then says, "Thank you, (child's name). It is a very effective strategy.
Throughout the year I also do special activities to promote kindness. At Christmas time I put up a large paper Christmas tree on the bulletin board. I then run off different kinds of ornaments on colored paper.
I have the kids cut out the ornaments and send five home in a plastic baggy. Parents write down an act of kindness they saw their child do at home on the paper ornament and send it back to school. I staple the ornament on the tree. Before I put it on the tree, I read what each child did. Parents and kids love this activity.
Before Hundreds Day I send home red paper hearts and also have a basket of paper hearts in the classroom. Parents write down an act of kindness they witnessed that their child did at home. Kids write down an act of kindness they saw one of their classmates do at school. These hearts are put up on a bulletin board labeled... A HUNDRED ACTS OF KINDNESS.
