Clip to ScrapBook
I hate the word "bored." I teach 26 first graders. If a parent comes to me and says, and many have, "my child is bored" they usually want to tell me how "gifted" their little darling is. I explain that all first graders
are "gifted" in some area. Some have more life experience than others and therefore they really excel and some things. A truely gifted child will find things to challenge themselves. I offer many creative thinking activities for the children if they finish before others on a task. By second or third grade those "gifted" little darlings level off becuase the others have now had the
experiences he/she had earlier. The child is not bored, he/she is lazy. Sometimes parents have to do some work at home with little timmy. There is only one of me and 26 of them. As for modifications...oh my goodness...I am modifying my ears off. I have behavior charts with some, some that can't figure out sounds and some that read at a second grade level. Modifying to reach all their needs is hard and exhausting. We can't do it all and that's a hard pill to swallow.
