Clip to ScrapBook
Hi there. Last year I had a student whose mother died after a battle with cancer. I agree with Grace in that you need to see how your student reacts first, and then go from there. My student, who was quiet already, became even more quiet and introverted. But as the months went by, he began to come out of his shell and be more comfortable around others. I had also given my class journals, so maybe he was able to pour some feelings into his. I kept in frequent contact with his father. Get some help and suggestions from your school counselor to see when you should tell the class (maybe you could have your student tell them) and how to offer your help to the girl and her family. I wish you all the best.
