Wow, that mom needs some professional help! I had a parent like that once and I put my arm around her and told her that in the long term, her son was going to rebel and carry a lot of resentment against her because of her behaviors. I put my head on the chopping block with this parent, but it worked out well. She backed off and is still somewhat overbearning, but what do you expect. Your mom sounds mentally unstable and in need of parenting help. She is a classic "helicopter parent" as described by the Love and Logic series (check it out on www.loveandlogic.com) Good luck! There are some people who don't take subtle hints. I wish we could videotape them and show the tape back to them.
