This is just your first year teaching this so yes, it will be rather slow for some since you are just learning the routine yourself. When we adopted Saxon, we were told that we MUST go strictly by the script (no more, no less). Well, we tried that the first year. Frankly, I don't teach that way (with a script). If I see my students need to move on then I do...if they need to go slower then I reteach. I add things to the lesson that I deem appropriate for my kids. I briefly glance over the lesson to see what I need to cover so they don't miss anything so they can do the worksheet, but I add whatever by bringing in more manipulatives, books, center ideas, etc.

Yes it will be rather slow for your kids as you are doing it for the first time but it will get better year to year. Maybe you could do what I suggest, and read over it ahead(which I'm sure you already do) and think of things that you could add to the lesson to help keep their attention.

    Good luck and Merry Christmas!
