    I also know how difficult being short staffed can be. Here are a few suggestions: ask parents to come in and observe your class. Once they actually see your situation they will be more willing to complain. Believe me when I tell you that parent complaints are the only ones administration listens to. You might also try getting community volunteers. We also have staggered recesses in our school. Responsible fifth graders volunteer to come in and read to, play educational games, and work with flash cards.
    They also do my bulletin boards and other tedious tasks. My kids love having the older students around and friendships have developed. It is even considered a status symbol to be a special ed helper. Good Luck and hang in there - our kids need us!
