I also felt like I never got time to teach. Then I changed the way I scheduled my class. I broke the students into ability level groups. Next I made several instructional time slots. I set up a room divider and only the students receiving instruction were allowed in this area. All other students were given independent activities which my assistant monitored. Absolutely no one was allowed to interrupt my instruction group (except my assistant). This made an amazing difference in the quality and quantity of work we were able to accomplish.
I needed the support of administration to accomplish this because of potential scheduling confilicts with classes like art and gym. But we managed to develop a workable plan. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!
