Clip to ScrapBook
Hi. I did this activity with my Kindergarteners and it was a tough concept for them to grasp. I don't know how it would work with third graders but I just thought I'd share.

Cut out the large shape of a person's body from
construction paper. Pass the "person" around so each of the children gets a chance. Tell the children that when they get the person they can either tear off a piece of the paper or crumple up the paper. Then have students meet and try to tape the "person" back together and make it look the same as it did at the start of the activity. Discuss how when they are making rude and nasty remarks
to each other it changes them inside and destroys a little piece of the other person like they destroyed and changed the "person."

Also, check out canteach.ca (use .ca NOT .com). There is a section of booklists and I believe there is a list of books about friendship.

Good luck!
