Lice By MJH

I was teaching in Lousiana a few years ago and had a student who got lice all the time. The dad would treat the boy's head but dad would not treat his own so the boy kept getting. Because of that experience I'm quiet knowledgable| about this subject. I've even seen the nits and bugs under a microscope. The actually bugs can not survive in dirty hair, they lay their eggs in dirty hair but once hatched they must move to clean hair. If you use moose, hair spray, or gel that seems to help. Harsh chemicals can also prevent you from getting them but you can still get lice. If your perm or coloring is recent | | you may be spared but if you've had it awhile you are at risk of getting lice.Since you now know that they have lice the students can not come back to school until they have a clean bill of health from the doctor or the school nurse. I do not know of any State health department who doesn't have this policy. The student must be checked before returning to school. That means no nits in the hair either. Sorry that this has happened to you but when you teach you are at risk of getting anything that the students have. Some parents just don't think when it comes to matters like this.
