First, consider your relationship with your principal. If it's good, then you might go ahead and tell. If you aren't sure, wait.

You'd be surprised how long you can wait to tell (especially with your first). You will think it's obvious, but it won't be!

You might want to wait until after whatever date is your district's cut off for non-renewal. Ours is early March. That way, you'll be sure that you have a job. I am also assuming that you will be tenured.
