prioritize
By Rebecca

Clip to ScrapBook
What I do is prioritize my papers to grade. Ofcourse there are tests, quizzes, homeworks, classwork so I decide which take precendence over others. I make stacks starting with the most important ones first. No, you will
not check everything and you WILL toss some papers!

I check my own papers because I want to know how my students are doing and what they need extra work on. I don't let anyone else do that even when I have a sub (there's the matter of confidentiality). Like the first poster mentioned, I too let the students grade their OWN papers, not someone else's, (the ones that aren't first priority).

We too discuss them in class. I do random checks of some work that is not priority. I also keep up who has/hasn't turned in assignments.

I have a family outside work. I do my job and do it well but after hours, my family takes priority so don't let the papers interfere with that! I stay after school for a certain amount of time and grade what is priority, then I go home.

Don't let this stress you out. Prioritize your papers, get the important ones first, then work on the others when you have time (and yes, toss some--at home!)
