Try reading a poem by Jack Prelusky (found on internet or school library) and doing some sort of takeoff such as talking about intrepretation by asking groups to read it with different feelings or by selecting several poems and asking breaking class into groups and having them answer questions about it then selecting their favorite and performing it in twos. You can bring in all kinds of teaching like mood, tone, setting, characters, problem, etc. I like to end with a reading of a poem in which they didn't have and see there interest rise as I near the end. If the poems about a food item..such as candy..I usually bring some for fun. Poems are always fun, entertaining and easy in a pinch.
