Depression
By Mrs. O

Clip to ScrapBook
I think that it is wrong for them to have taken your class like that. If a person is suffering from depression, then they should be allowed the opportunity to seek medical attention and then come back to the classroom. It
sounds like you got that by going into the hospital whether by choice or not. Depression isn't something people ask for. It's something that happens to them. People take leave of absences for other reasons such as pregnancy, surgery, family illness, etc. Depression can be treated. Do you know what generally happens when a person is treated? They get better and live normal lives.

I also would not want a person who is suffering from untreated depression to teach my children. If they are being treated and are doing well, then I'd be more than happy to have them teach my kids.
Depression isn't about "having yourself together" like someone who simply can't hack things. It's a biological condition. It's also illegal to fire someone because of it.
What I am trying to say is that I think they were wrong in taking your job. They should have allowed you a leave of absence to seek medical attention and then given you your classroom back. They would have if you were having a baby, a hysterectomy, or anything else medical. If, however, a person who suffers from depression does not want help, then they should lose their job since they wouldn't be able to persorm.
