Well, I don't know if this will make feel better, but it's my honest opinion.

First of all, I agree with you in that it was not appropriate for them to call your family and say you quit. That seems a little odd to me and
I wonder if we're getting the whole story. However -- It sounds to me like that administration made the RIGHT CALL in not having you teach. Frankly, if your depression is bad enough that you're in the hospital, you do not belong in a classroom. Once you have yourself together, then you can start looking for a job. Frankly, I wouldn't want you teaching my children in that condition,
and I don't think anyone else would either. I apologize if this came accross as harsh, but it's the truth. Best of luck for your recovery & career.
