Fables Writing Project

I have a lot of animal puppets available in my school so I gathered 20 of them together. My children sit at tables of 4 so I randomly dropped 4 puppets on each table. I gave every person a character description sheet where
they wrote down adjectives to describe. We talked about traits that are attributed to certain animals first, like loyalty in a dog, slyness in a fox, etc. Then I gave each group a story map where they mapped out the problem and the solution for their fable along with the moral of the tale. As a group, they then wrote a fable and practiced it as a skit. We invited our counselor and principal

in to see the finished puppet shows and had a ball! I graded them using a rubric focusing on cooperation, having all the parts of a fable, using their puppets and their voices well, etc. I hope this helps.
