Learning student names
By Riann

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't usually learn the names of students when I sub at the secondary level. I rely on the seating charts, which are required to be left by the teacher. In elementary classrooms, I try to learn the students' names while taking attendance. I take the first 10 minutes out of the day to learn names. I go by rows or groups and memorize the order in which the students sit. Then around lunch time, I go through the names again. After lunch, I let the students change seats for a few minutes to test me. It really impresses them when I can remember their names!
