I can relate!!

I can so relate to your problem! I teach 3/4 split, and have some who just don't care...they complain about EVERYTHING!! I think a rubric is a great idea! I will try to implement something to that. In our school we use the number grading scale 6 is outstanding, 5 is excellent, etc. When I taught first grade, I had a poster made showing exactly what 4 writing looked like, (1st grade can only go to a 4)as well as a 3, 2, and 1. That seemed to work, maybe something similar will work here. (sorry, I'm brainstorming on line...that might be dangerous!)Currently, if my kids don't turn in at least adequate work, I keep them in on their recesses to redo it. I hate to give up my time, but I just didn't know what to do! michele
