I can relate!!

I can so relate to your problem! I teach 3/4 split, and have some who just don't care...they complain about EVERYTHING!! I think a rubric is a great idea! I will try to implement something to that. In our school we use the number grading scale 6 is outstanding, 5 is excellent, etc. When I taught first grade, I had a poster made showing exactly what 4 writing looked like, (1st grade can only go to a 4)as well as a 3, 2, and 1. That seemed to work, maybe something similar will work here. (sorry, I'm brainstorming on line...that might be dangerous!)

Currently, if my kids don't turn in at least adequate work, I keep them in on their recesses to redo it. I hate to give up my time, but I just didn't know what to do!
