Your input as a teacher is helpful. I'm sure all of us who sub. have dealt with this type of thing many times. One has to develop broad shoulders but I also draw the line with older kids (I consider 4th grade on up to be | older) on outbursts against me and classmates. More than once I've told kids coming in to complain about fights, etc. that they need to check it at the door, Of course, if I witness it or it gets reported by another teacher/aide then I'll deal with it. When I started sub'ing I was surprised at how kids can gang up on each other - thus, I take supposed witnesses (other students) to an | | incident with some skepticism. The first couple of times I tried to investigate a reported incident back in the classroom and all it does is chews up valuable class time. If the 2 or 3 combatants try to renew the battle in class they are moved to neutral corners. My bottom line is I will not tolerate disruptions once we begin a lesson. Best, Ken in WI
