gifted first grader

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I teach first grade as wel, and in my experience with gifted children, I've noticed that most are extremely talented in one specific area, but need extra help in another. Although she speaks French, you said she was reading in Hebrew. Maybe the phonics and syntax of the 2 languages are confusing for her, or maybe you haven't tried a wide enough variety. I would try something at a mid second grade or beginning th=ird grade level, all the way down to a pre primer level and see what she does with each. Have you asked her what she wants to read? If reading is the goal, maybe let her bring some Hebrew books from home until she gets more comfortable with the idea of reading with groups, or as a class. Hope this helps!
Andrea
