Hello linda, I teach 6th grade also. You did not post what subject you teach or if you have the same set of children all day. I teach math on a team of 5 teachers. We have a teacher that had surgery and has been out this year and the class has had 4 different subs. If this is the case with you, find out if the team all does discipline as a plan. It will be easier if the students already have a routine in their other classes to fall back on. I agree with the other post in that you MUST get your routines set up that first week. Do not try to get to academics too soon. It will be a waste of time if they do not know what is expected. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
