I too think that you need to stand firm. These types of situations happen all the time and it can be hard. I too have felt guilty in this type of scenario. However, I feel that society has been heading in a bad direction where it's never anyone's fault, it's always someone else's. Parents need to be responsible too, and I wish some parents wouldn't even put us in the position where we feel guilty for what they did or didn't do. I'll bet next time that calendar will be signed though, if you stick to your policy!
