Input from a Sp Ed teacher By Sixtiesbabe

I teach sp ed at a high school.I would reccommend talking to his IEP case Manager immediately. See if he take Math Pass/Fail, be graded on effort only, etc. Obviously, the "consultation" is not working- either it does not exist (on paper only) or he needs to be in a Sp Ed Math class. A student with a math learning disability being placed in Algebra does not seem appropriate to me. A more basic math class may be needed... one that teaches math skills needed for every day life. By the way, my own daughter is a HS student with a math LD. She is taking a spe ed math class called Consumer Math. I think you have every right to be concerned! Good luck.
