Number the Stars

I used this book with my 5th grade class last year and they loved it. I am getting ready to use it again with this year's class. I give my students a choice as we read it; independent reading, partner reading, or listening to me read it. I also build background about WWII. I go over vocabulary, assign a few chapters at a time, have the students keep a journal where they answer prompts I give them, and take a test at the end of the book. Of course we have discussions and a couple of projects.
