Kids always know I"m leaving a note
By Lurker

Clip to ScrapBook
When I'm subbing k to about 2, I leave a public note on the blackboard that the students and I write throughout the day.

Learning kids names can be made easier if you look at their work. I will go over and flip to the cover of a kid's scribble to check their name.

Kids always know that I'm writing a note and that our goal is to shoot for that GOOD note. If I've talked to the teacher, I drop that little tidbit for good measure as it seems to give me more authority in their eyes.

When I write the actual note, I rarely leave names, unless their misbehavior was extreme or the talk of the class. EX. riding a skateboard in class.
