I would probably write a note back (polite one) but one that would get a message across hopefully.

Something like this.....

I can understand your concern about the questions on the test, however I wanted to just clarify
a couple of things with you. The students were allowed to have their book with them so they could use it to help them. And while wording things exactly the same as the book may have made it easier for them, part of the purpose in this type of test is to make them think about their answers. In most of the "State" tests and as your child moves into the higher grades this will be the
type of questions they will see more often - so although your daughter had a low mark - hopefully from the review we will be doing (or have done) she will have learned something valuable about being prepared and making sure she knows where things are in the books we are using.


It may end up going over the head of this parent - but at least she will realize you are not going to just stand by and let her put you and your teaching down every chance she gets. And by writing something truthful and yet positive she can't accuse you of being rude, etc.,

It really is frustrating when parents stand in the way of their children's learning. I really appreciate the parents who work with me not against me in my classes.
