Sarah,

How fortunate you were to get to go to that conference - I'm excited for you (ok, and slightly jealous, too *8). Yes, students are reading three books at a time. I teach students in the fourth grade and many of them have four different books going at a time and do wonderfully with it. My practicum students asked them how they do it and they told her all the strategies they used while reading and thinking. It was impressive to hear them explain it!
