Beth,
I don't have any research to offer...Only my personal opinion. At my school we are somewhat departmentalized. I teach math and science and my teaching partner teaches language arts. We each teach social studies to our homeroom class. I really like it in that planning is much easier. I feel I do a much better job of preparing and presenting the material since there is not such an overwhelming amount. I also enjoy it as it breaks up the day a bit. The downside is that we don't do as much integration as I would like. This is mainly due to the "lack of time" issue that plagues most educators.
