bathroom behavior
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I only send two boys and two girls into the bathroom at a time. Any more than that, and they act like crazies. I was beginning to have this problem with my boys. I always let them see me open the door to their bathroom.
I can't go in, of course, but I can stand there and watch what is going on. The boys have a place where I can't see them, but they know that I can hear them and see some of what they are doing. My girls are never a problem. I can even send up to four girls in at a time without watching them. My attention is always on the boys. (There are four stalls.)

One thing I did when I began

to see the fooling around in the bathroom was tell the kids that they would have a five-day recess detention if they did anything in the bathroom other than what they are supposed to be doing. The bathroom is not the place to slide around, have water play, socialize, or waste time. I give the boys a minute to pee, then wash their hands. I then open the door and start counting and tell them by the time I am finished counting, they'd better be out of there.
