I read on another web site that a sub calls students by their clothing w/ Mr. & Miss in front. For example, Miss Pink Dress, please sit down. It gets their attention. However, this doesn't help if you sub at a school that wears uniforms!! Also, when I walk around checking their work, I look at the name on their paper& try to remember a few, not all names.I love seating charts, but seldom receive them from the reg. teacher.
