Teacher's pet
By Ken

Clip to ScrapBook
Your post points out a situation that I suspect many, if not most, of us see over and over again.

Even as a sub. I have found connections with some of the kids in the schools I sub. in. And, like you, some come up to me even when I am not in their classroom.

At times I also feel uncomfortable but also have no problem with a hug now and then, etc. I have talked to some teachers about this and they also feel a hug now and then is what so many of these kids need.

For a boy, though, it is harder and I frankly do not know how best to handle this with a 4th grader. The few boys that have latched on to me are younger.

I'd suggest you check out one of the other boards to see if anyone has insights on this.

Best, Ken in WI
