Ana,
Fear not. How about reading the book Fortunately by Remy Charlip. The book is about cause and effect as well as sequencing. You can have them write a topic sentence and then some detail sentences and then a closing sentence.
For example:
My family is having Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year.
Fortunately we just moved and have plenty of space.
Unfortunately the furniture hasn't arrived yet

so on and so on

And thats Thanksgiving at our house.

Its a great story the kids makes their own books and giggle all day long.
