Meagan, I teach third grade and my students were struggling with place value. I made place value place mats and laminated them. I gave hem several examples orally and had them write them down. They could never say "and" when repeating it back to me and they always knew the comma was the word thousand. We also played Who's the Greatest? Using a deck of cards when I called out a number they would place it down on their chart. They cannot change it however. Sometimes I would pick up three two's or two "zero's" at the end who ever had the greatest number and could say it was the winner. Its alot of fun and they become expert at place value.
