We put a number line up in the hallway and all the teachers on my hall cut out different colors of stars and put the kids' names on them. When move the stars each Friday. The idea that other classes will see where you are is a big motivator for many of the kids.
When someone reaches 100, we mount the star on a rectangle of a contrasting color and move it back to 1 for 101.
