The situation of little or no plans is when it is important to have a "bag of tricks" and emergency plans that can get you through a day. I have had to use my bag of tricks. It really helps to have it. It can mean the
difference between having a good, productive day and a frustrating day. I would also suggest asking about the basic school schedule for you classroom before starts if you find little or no plans. That way you know how to fill in your day with your plans if need be and you will be sure to make to schoolwide scheduled things such as specials and lunch on time. Just let the kids know that
"we will be doing things just a little bit different just for today." It also helps to tell them a little about what they will be doing when and also writing it on the board. Most kids can adapt pretty easily. Good luck! I hope the situation of little or no plans doesn't happen too often. It can be frustrating.
