Some ideas By Tina

Hi. I too have a distruptive student in my first grade class, but things have settled down a bit. My student wasn't as violent physically, but usually used negative and rude comments. I filled out an IAT form and we have| come up with a plan. Recently he has been diagnosed and is now on anger reducing medication. It's a complete and wonderful change for the both of us. We have also decided to have a quiet, calming place (a rocking chair in the hall) for him to retreat to when he feels this angry feeling coming on. And a "secret code" that we can use to inform one another of a possible angry feeling. I praise | | him often for controlling his own actions. The principal also has an incentive program. She puts a sticker on the chart everyday that she doesn't see him. (He was going to the office quite a bit). After the chart is filled he gets a pop, chips and extra recess. Also, if behavior gets out of control he makes a phone call to mom so that she can calm him down. So far, I've noticed the biggest change came from medication and the incentive program. I don't believe medication is the cure for everything, but when my student goes through the day without yelling at me or another student I find it quite successful!Hope that helps.
