Teacher behavior
By Cher

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree that teachers should model the behavior that they expect from children. However, how are these teachers acting? Are they cracking their gum or are they chewing it discreetly. Do they drink pop in cans visible
to the rest of the class or do they put it into a different container?
I drink pop in the classroom, but I put it into an opaque waterbottle and the kids have no idea what I am drinking. Most of the day, I do drink water. It's really none of their business, either. I drink pop, because I need my morning caffeine and I don't like coffee. However, I certainly don't flaunt it in
front of the kids.
I have never chewed gum in front of a class, but I have had hard candy. Why? I have done this because when I talk a lot, my throat becomes sore and the candy helps to alleviate it. I simply explain this to the kids and they seem to understand. I certainly don't feel bad for them because they can't have any. Many kids get it at home and don't feel deprived because they see me have it and they can't have it at the moment.
