Yucky hands
By Al

Clip to ScrapBook
I too have several students who are obsessed with mouthing. We have tried MANY things (of course with a parent permission slip!) to decrease the yuck.
1) card board tubes (paper towel tubes, old wrapping paper rolls, laminating
maching rolls are GREAT!) cut either in half or just a slit the long way. Secure with either tape or velcro. An old tube sock without toes works to help pad a little more.
2) mittens/gloves over the hands - some kids don't like the texture
3) alternative objects to mouth - rubber tubing, more appropriate looking teething rings, wash clothes
4) lemon juice, hot sauce, sanitizing
hand gel (it has a really bitter taste)
5) as a reward for dry hands - really nice smelling hand lotions. Walmart has cheap Suave stuff that smells GREAT!
Hope a few/any of these help!
