From both sides.

If you think being a sub is bad.......
I subbed for two years and was met with encouragement and gratefullness. The teachers I worked for said I always did a great job and that I should consider becoming a teacher. In
the meantime, a teacher's aide job came open, for which I applied and was hired.
Talk about a different can of worms! I often feel invisible to those I work with. The first two teachers I worked with encouraged and mentored me, so much so that they influenced me to go into teaching myself. I am about 18 months from obtaining my bachelor's degree and teacher certification. The teacher
I work with now takes all the credit for the good that goes on. She is a great teacher...WHEN she wants to be. In the meantime I do much of the actual teaching, supervision and disciplining that goes on in her room while she sits in front of the computer "working."
In my experience, the good teachers far outnumber the bad ones. But it is really tough when you have gone from a good experience to a bad one. I vow to never treat any aide I may work with as invisible when I finally get into my own classroom.
From one who has seen both sides.
