Hi! I am a JK teacher and I have heard all of the teasing. My husband teases me as well. All I think about is that there is no way that those that seriously think we are "babysitters" could ever do the job we do! We are so much more than a teacher...we act as mom, nurse, friend, problem-solver, and soooo much more. Have you tried showing your dad the curriculum or what a typical day is like? I work in Canada and we have an extensive curriculum in Ontario to follow. BUT alas, many people do think we do babysit since the way these children learn is through play. My suggestion is to invite your dad along one day and see if he changes his mind! Good luck on your practice teaching!!
