butter
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
You can give each child a baby food jar to make their own butter. Put about 1/4 cup of cream in each jar. You can add a marble if you like - makes the mixing time go faster. The hardest part is when the cream looks like whipped cream. After that you really have to shake to get it to continue to the butter stage. When a child's jar turns to butter and buttermilk, have them bring it to you where you use a strainer to drain away the buttermilk. Dump the wad of butter on a plate along with a plastic knife or spoon and a few crackers. Instant snack. You can add salt as mentioned above, but another way to deal with this is to serve the butter on salted crackers. This way the kids can taste it with and without salt.
