butter
By melanie

Clip to ScrapBook
Just put a carton of real (unwhipped) whipping cream into a leak proof jar. Add a pinch of salt. Seal the jar tightly and have the kids take turns shaking it. It will take a while before the cream turns into butter. There will be a little bit of "buttermilk" left in the jar. Remove this. In my experience, the homemede butter does not last very long so be sure to use it up soon. I think it is because some of the buttermilk remains behind in the butter (and spoils) when you make it by hand. It is quite tasty and easy to make, but don't forget the salt or it is not as good.

Good luck!
