    Simple & Fun Turkey Project

We just made turkeys Thursday. They were pretty simple, but I was also able to assess color recognition and direction following through the process.

I had pre-cut a "turkey body" out of dark brown paper and a light brown "turkey head" for each student. I also pre-cut rectangles (1/4 of a sheet of construction paper) in blue, green, 2 yellows, orange, and red for each student. The rectangles were used for the tail feathers. The second yellow was used for the legs. We cut an orange beak out of the orange scraps too. We went through putting the turkeys together step-by-step so that I could see if they knew the colors. Each child had their own creative way of making the feathers, legs, and positioning the head and tail feathers. You could also add "googley eyes" or draw them on with markers. We also made speech bubbles for our turkeys with quotation marks. (I placed them on our bulletin board today with: "Turkey Talk" as the heading.)

The kids really loved doing this and they all turned out so cute and very unique! Hope this quick idea helps!
