Hello Maggie,
I dont' know how old your students are...I have kindergarten (EFL in Taiwan). I also have some students who are in their own worlds when they are supposed to be doing their work (phonics/math...). So I started a "rewarding system" by telling them that all those who can finish by ?! (a certain time) will get a stamp/sticker. This "time limit" is plenty enough time that they are all capable of finishing it (if they don't waste time!). I don't necessarily do it everyday (as I don't want them to DEPEND on the little reward) but do it when I feel that they need that "extra" push!
