1st year teacher help!
By Meg

Clip to ScrapBook
Great advice from BeaJay!! I, too, started some 15 years ago in the middle of the year!!I got students from the other 2 third grades to create a new class, and I did get the class from !!#, but...I whipped them into shape!!!
They did such a complete change! I was the new 5'1" drill sargent(sp?) that everyone was feeling sorry for - at first!! Know what you are doing - keep them very busy - do some fun activities so that they will like their new teacher even if you are really strict at first - establish a morning routine, such as journal, 5 sentences that they must proofread in a journal, and a daily silent
journal writing, etc. I always found it helpful to have all boardwork, class and homework assignments, etc. up on the board before I left at the end of the day. It gives you more time in the morning and your "stuff" is already in order if you have to call in sick suddenly!! Good luck and you'll do great!!
